Beide modellen waren geen succes, maar zouden op hun beurt wel de basis leggen voor de Honda Civic, het model waarmee Honda wereldwijd bekend zou worden als een gerenommeerd automerk. Het model was direct beschikbaar als 2-, 3-, 4- en 5-deurs in uiteenlopende uitvoeringen, waarmee direct duidelijk was dat Honda hoge verwachtingen had van de Civic en hiermee de markt op haar wenken wilde bedienen. Dit lukte per ongeluk nog veel beter dan bedacht was, want de bijzonder zuinige Civic was de ideale auto tijdens de oliecrisis van 1973. Honda zou hier direct op inspelen door dit de zuinigste auto op de markt te noemen en dit constant mee te nemen in de marketing.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eIn 1976 besloot Honda om een groter model uit te brengen, dat op een verlengd Civic-platform werd gezet. Het model werd wat langer en lager en het interieur werd opgefrist, zodat de modernere Civic de concurrentie beter aan zou kunnen met de Europese modellen. Dat is makkelijker dan gedacht, want in onderstaand filmpje zijn de reclames samengevoegd die zijn uitgezonden tussen 1976 en 1979 voor de Honda Civic.
