Affordable windscreen replacement for your Kia Pride

The Kia Pride is one of those models that has somewhat faded into obscurity, until the name comes up in conversation or you spot one on the road. The Pride isn’t a showstopper, nor was it a global sales hit, nor is it a car that makes a big impression, but it was a crucial model for Kia’s success and it was exactly what consumers were looking for when it was launched. If you have a Pride that needs a new windscreen, you’ll find affordable, high-quality automotive glass with us that can be fitted at your location at short notice. Before we surprise you with the attractive price of our new Kia Pride windscreens, let’s take a brief look at this model.

1987–2000: the Kia Pride

The Kia Pride was launched in 1987, a period when Kia had yet to achieve much success on the international stage. The Pride was Kia’s first front-wheel-drive B-segment model and was developed in collaboration with Mazda and Ford, as is clearly evident from the fact that this model was built on the platform of the Ford Festiva (for American markets) and the Mazda 121.

The Kia Pride became known primarily for its low entry-level price, manoeuvrability (small turning circle), versatility (despite the price, it was a well-equipped model) and low maintenance and fuel costs.

The Kia Pride lives on

In 2000, the Kia Pride was taken out of production, but it would be more accurate to say that the knowledge, experience and components from this model were reused in subsequent models, which were designed to be even better suited to export markets (including Europe). This is particularly evident in the Kia Rio, as this model draws heavily on the Kia Pride.

Just how successful was the Kia Pride, really?

The Kia Pride was in production for over 10 years and its sales figures were good compared with other models from this brand. However, the significance and success of the Pride lie elsewhere. For Kia, the Pride was the first major step towards the international market and, thanks to the collaboration with Mazda and Ford, this was not a small step but a giant leap forward. It was also the best possible start for the car manufacturer, as consumers would come to associate Kia with affordability, low fuel and maintenance costs and, above all, great reliability.

And perhaps that’s just as well, because Kia didn’t exactly shine in its adverts. Most of the adverts were made for the Asian market, but we’ve found one for you that was broadcast in the UK – and we wonder how many people could still remember what they’d seen a minute later.

When should the windscreen of the Kia Pride be replaced?

A clear view of the road is important, because only then can you see what’s happening and take action in good time. That’s why there are strict rules regarding windscreen damage. If there is damage within the driver’s field of vision and it is a branching crack or a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres, the car must not be driven on public roads. Your visibility is too severely obstructed, the damage is a distraction whilst driving, and incoming light may be reflected in unpredictable ways, which can cause glare. With this type and location of windscreen damage, your car will therefore no longer pass the APK (Dutch periodic roadworthiness inspection).

If the chip or crack is smaller, or if it is not in your field of vision, you may continue driving with the windscreen damaged. Bear in mind, however, that the windscreen may crack further if there are significant temperature differences between the inside and outside of the windscreen. It may also be worth checking the price of a new Kia Pride windscreen below first, as they are likely to be cheaper than you think.

How much does a new Kia Pride windscreen cost?

You can get a new Kia Pride windscreen for just €349, which includes VAT but excludes the cost of a new windscreen moulding (you can also buy this from us for just €90). Our new windscreens are therefore much cheaper than the original automotive glass, whilst the quality is the same, as they are manufactured in exactly the same way. Original windscreens, however, feature a brand logo that gives them an exclusive feel – which literally just means a higher price. We do not charge that premium, which is why our unbranded, replacement Kia Pride windscreens are considerably cheaper – usually even cheaper than second-hand automotive glass.

Can you replace the windscreen on your Kia Pride yourself?

Windscreen replacement is a precise and tricky job, mainly due to the size and weight of the car’s windscreen. This is one of the reasons why we advise against attempting to replace the windscreen yourself, as even a small mistake can quickly drive up the costs, meaning you end up paying more rather than saving money. To make things as easy as possible for you, we work with professional fitting partners who replace windscreens on-site. You can easily arrange this when ordering the new windscreen for your Kia Pride.

Are you an expert in windscreen replacement yourself, or do you know someone who can replace the Kia Pride windscreen for you? If so, you can also order a new windscreen from us without fitting. You can easily select this option whilst ordering your automotive glass.
